    Questions and answers

    General
What is the price base amount?

You often come across the term price base amount (pba) when talking about insurance. For example, the amount of compensation might be shown in the number of price base amounts, rather than in kronor. The level of the price base amount is set by the government once a year. This means that your compensation won’t always be the same amount in kronor as when you took out your insurance but is adjusted in line with price trends.

How do I cancel an insurance policy?

Log in to My pages in order to cancel an insurance or by calling us at 0771-111 999. If you call us to cancel an insurance policy you must be able to identify yourself using a mobile Bank ID. We will need to know your personal identity number or customer number, which insurance policy you want to cancel and when you want the insurance to end.

How do I cancel my spouse’s, registered partner’s or cohabitant’s insurance?

You can only cancel your own insurance policies. Your spouse, registered partner or cohabitant can cancel their policy on My page.

If they call us to cancel an insurance policy they will need to identify themselves using a mobile BankID. We will need to know their personal identity number or customer number, which insurance policy they want to cancel and when they want the insurance to end.

    What is a premium?

In insurance, premium simply means price. It is the actual cost of your insurance.

Who can buy an insurance policy from Akademikerförsäkring?

You must be a member of one of the following unions: Sveriges Ingenjörer (Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers), Akademikerförbundet SSR, (Union for Professionals), Naturvetarna (Swedish Association of Professional Scientists), DIK (union for culture, communication and the creative sector), Sveriges Arbetsterapeuter (Swedish Association of Occupational Therapists), Logopedförbundet (Association of Speech and Language Pathologists) or Sveriges Farmaceuter (union for pharmacists and dispensers).

If your spouse, registered partner or cohabitant is a member you can buy insurance on the same terms and for the same premiums as long as the person who is a member holds at least one insurance policy of their own.

What insurance do I need when I travel abroad?

If you have bought your home insurance through Akademikerförsäkring you are protected while travelling anywhere in the world for 45 days. The policy pays for costs incurred if you have an accident or become ill. If you want to be sure that your insurance will apply you can check with the Swedish Foreign Office (UD) that your policy offers protection in the country you are visiting. Remember to check what your personal insurance policies cover when you are abroad, and that it can a good idea to buy travel insurance.

What happens when I’ve sent in my application for insurance?

Some policies do not require a health declaration and come into force the day after we receive your application.

The same is true for insurance policies that apply if you are fully fit for work. Other policies require you to fill in a health declaration. If there is anything the insurance company needs to assess we will send your application on to the relevant instance. If your application is accepted the insurance will be valid on and from the date after which you sent in your application.

What does fully fit for work mean?

Fully fit for work is a term which is often used when you buy insurance. Being fully fit for work means that the insured person

    • can fulfill their normal work without exception
    • does not receive any benefits related to their own illness, injury or disability, or does not have such benefits pending
    • does not carry out work tasks which have been especially adapted, and is not employed in a subsidized pay scheme or similar.
What will happen to my insurance policies if I leave my union?

If you leave your union your insurance will continue to be valid as before if you have been insured for longer than six months. The difference is that the premium, the sum you pay every year for the insurance, will be higher. We will send you an insurance statement by post where you can see clearly how your premium has changed. You cannot increase the sum insured in your policies or buy new insurance policies from us if you are no longer a member of any of our affiliated unions.

    What does ‘start date’ mean?

This is the date on which the insurance comes into force.

What is the main due date?

This is the date on which the insurance agreement ceases to apply. Your insurance continues after this but the terms and premium may be changed. You will receive notification of any change at least one month beforehand.

    Payment
What’s the difference between the methods of payment?

If you pay by direct debit the money is automatically taken from the account you have registered. You choose whether you want to pay for your insurance once a month, quarter, half-year or year. The easiest way to register a direct debit and the payment period is via Mina sidor.

If you pay by e-invoice the invoice will be sent to your internet bank electronically. You will then need to authorise each payment before the money is taken from your account. To register payment by e-invoice log in to your bank and select Akademikerförsäkring as the e-invoice supplier. You will then pay per quarter, but you can contact us if you would like a longer payment period. You cannot use both direct debit and e-invoicing. If you register both we will switch to direct debit.

If you pay by bank transfer you will receive your invoices by post. Each printed invoice costs 35 kronor. You choose the payment period by logging in to Mina sidor. You cannot pay per month if you choose a bank transfer invoice.

What should I do if I pay by direct debit and want to cancel my insurance?

You don’t need to do anything. We won’t take any more money from your account after your insurance has been cancelled.

You’ve sent me a quarterly invoice by post but I want to change to e-invoicing or direct debit. Do I have to pay the quarterly invoice?

Yes. But you can still register direct debit or e-invoice on Min profil. We’ll use the new payment method you’ve chosen starting from the next time.

You’ve sent me an invoice but I want to cancel one of my policies. Is it possible for me not to pay one part of the invoice?

No. If you want to cancel a policy or change it in any way you need to contact us. We’ll send you a new invoice for the correct amount.

What happens if I miss a payment?

If you don’t pay your e-invoice or invoice we’ll send you a reminder with a reminder fee of 40 kronor. All reminders are sent by post, which means that even if you pay by e-invoice or direct debit you’ll receive a printed invoice. Your next payment will be deducted via an e-invoice or direct debit as usual.

I want to cancel my insurance. When will you take the final payment?

How long you’ll need to pay for the insurance depends on the insurance agreement. Some policies can be cancelled immediately while others have a longer fixed time.

Non-life insurance can be cancelled on the main due date, unless you no longer need insurance, in which case you can cancel it earlier.

If you want to cancel a personal insurance policy which is paid by direct debit, we will take the final payment three working days before the last day of the month. If we have already taken the money this will be the last payment we take. The direct debit agreement will then be cancelled.

I’ve paid too much. What will happen to the money?

The amount will be credited and deducted from the next payment. If you would prefer us to repay the money you can contact us.

Can I postpone the final payment date?

No. If you don’t pay your invoice you will be sent a reminder. If you don’t pay after you receive the reminder your policy will be cancelled.

Can I choose my payment period?

If you pay by direct debit you will normally pay every month, but you can choose to pay monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. If you choose to pay by invoice or e-invoice you can choose to pay per quarter, half-year or year. The easiest way to change you payment period is via Min profil.

What does it mean when you say you charge a fee for invoices and reminders?

We charge a fee of 35 kronor for each printed invoice we send and 40 kronor for every reminder. The fee is to cover our administrative costs, as well envelopes, printing and postage. The invoice fee is added to the fee for your insurance. You can change to direct debit at any time.

    New Member
Which insurances are included in the basic package?

As a new member you’ll get four kinds of insurance free of charge for three months. You can read about the offer here.

How can I change the content in the insurance policies I have been given as a new member?

If you want to make any changes you can do that on the web by logging in to Mina sidor, or you can contact us and we will help you.

I’m a student member. What applies to me?

For student members under the age of 67, student accident insurance and health insurance for mental health issues are included in your membership at no extra cost. You can also buy a student home insurance policy.

The offer for students applies to student members of Akademikerförbundet SSR (Union for Professionals), Sveriges Arbetsterapeuter (Swedish Association of Occupational Therapists), DIK (union for culture, communication and the creative sector), Naturvetarna (Swedish Association of Professional Scientists), Sveriges Farmaceuter (union for pharmacists and dispensers), Sveriges Ingenjörer (Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers), Svenska Logopedförbundet (Swedish Association of Speech and Language Pathologists).

    Making a Claim
When should I submit a claim?

Send in your claim as soon as you can. We guide you via Mina sidor. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re unsure of what to do. You can give us a call on 0771-111 999 or send a message.

    Who assesses the claim?

The insurance company assesses every claim. They are also responsible for handling and paying out compensation for claims. A number of companies provide insurance we offer: Skandia, Svedea, HELP, Dina Försäkringar and Trygg-Hansa.

I need to use my insurance because something’s happened. What do I do now?

You must send in a claim report to the insurance company. We guide you to how to do on My pages. You can also give us a call on 0771-111 999.

What happens after I’ve sent in my claim?

The insurance company will send you a letter confirming that they’ve received your claim. The letter will tell you how to contact them if you have any questions or if there is anything you are not sure about.

The insurance company will then decide if you are entitled to compensation and if so, how much. When they have made their decision, they will send you a letter telling you what they have decided. If you are not entitled to compensation the letter will explain the reason and tell you what to do if you are not satisfied with their decision. At Akademikerförsäkring we are always here to support you and you can contact us if you have any questions.

How long will it take before I receive the compensation?

That depends. Any expenses you have had in connection with the loss or damage will be reimbursed quickly. But in the case of more serious personal injuries it can take between one and two years after the injury occurred before you receive compensation. Compensation from a life insurance policy is paid out quickly.

Do I have to fill in a separate claims form for every policy I have with you?

    Yes.

So if I have more policies in other companies, should I send in a claim to all of them?

    Yes, you should.

How much time do I have to make a claim?

You should send in your claim as soon as you can. If you are seeking compensation for expenses, this should be done within three years from the time of the event, and an assessment of disability should also be made within three years from the time of the event.

I have no expenses. Should I still report my injury?

It’s always a good idea to send in a claim if you have sought treatment for your injury. If you should have trouble in the future or if the injury doesn’t heal as it should, it’s good if you can show you sought treatment at the time.

Does my insurance entitle me to crisis help?

Several of our insurance policies include crisis insurance, both for you and for your family. You can read more about the terms and conditions for each insurance policy or contact us and we will help you.

My child has suffered an injury. Who should sign the claim form, my child or I?

If your child is under 18, then you the parent should sign the claim form. If your child is over 18 and has mental capacity he or she should sign the form.
